Metamorphosis…
Each morning I go to my dock on Lake Norman to pray. One morning I caught sight on the deck railing a dragonfly who had just changed from a nymph to an adult, leaving the old shell behind. Amazing! It’s no coincidence that my reading that day included Revelations: “Behold, I make all things new.”
Dragonfly nymphs live on the bottom of a stream or pond finding food and trying survive. Depending on the species, this stage could last from just a couple of months to up to five years! When the time is just right, the nymph leaves the familiar watery surroundings and climbs toward the sky, to a place where this magnificent transformation can occur.
At The Center, we applaud all who choose to leave their familiar surroundings to go to a place where a magnificent transformation can occur. When that place is our center, it brings us additional delight to see a person ‘shed the old skin, sprout wings, and fly’. For me and the staff, there is no greater reward than to have our peaceful environment and gracious hospitality play a part in a person’s little metamorphosis.
The Center has also gone through its own metamorphosis. We’ve immerged from the recent renovations with not only a new ‘skin’ but a new life and spirit. We are grateful for all who have played a part in this change, especially the countless guests that have returned to be renewed time and time again, and to the new guests who have discovered this as a premier place for renewal and conversion.
I invite you to consider coming to The Center for your next retreat or event, or if you’re not sure, to discuss with me ways we can help you hear the words of the one seated on the throne saying to you: "Behold, I make all things new."

Chapel improvements almost there…
In the picture, you see the central cross and tabernacle, a new altar cloth, all positioned in front of some spectacular louvre blinds. I am still awaiting new candles, monstrance, statues of Mary and Joseph. But thanks to your generosity, they’ll be here soon. In my first few months as director, I was overwhelmed with the many directions I could go. I fixed in my mind, "Get the chapel right, and everything else will fall into place." And it has. It’s been a blessed first year.
THANK-YOU for all your prayers, support and financial assistance.
