Come to any or all four sessions
March 12 through April 2
The Catholic Conference Center invites you to a captivating program for Lent. Come join us and explore the spirituality of Mother Teresa and learn how her life’s example may help you overcome discouragements and guide you in your own spiritual journey.
There will be four Thursday evening sessions. Each session will begin with a delicious meal at 6:00 PM, followed by a thought-provoking reflection on the spirituality of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She is well-known as the mother of the poor and abandoned, but recent writings reveal she may also be the Mother of Mystical Darkness. Unknown to the world throughout most of her life’s magnificent work, she experienced a profound absence of God. Come and learn from Mother how to overcome those times in your life where you feel alone and abandoned.
Make Thursday during Lent a “Date Night with Mother Teresa”. Attend any one or all four Thursday evening sessions beginning March 12.
For those who arrive early, there will be a Holy Hour of Adoration from 4:45 PM to 5:45 PM before each session.
The discussions will be guided by the new book written by the beloved papal preacher, Fr. Raniero Cantalamesa, The Spirituality of Mother Teresa. From The Word Among Us website: “A beloved modern-day saint, St. Teresa of Calcutta continues to be a source of inspiration over twenty years after her death. She gave God her complete yes and became one of the most well-known and inspiring women of the twentieth century. Fr. Cantalamessa, Preacher to the Papal Household since 1980, invites us to say yes to God’s voice in our lives and overcome the obstacles that can distract or discourage us along the way.”
It is not necessary to have read the book. The presentations will be self-contained. For those who would like to dive a little deeper into their Lenten experience the book can be purchased online from The Word Among Us. A limited supply of books will be for sale in the gift shop.
The sessions and discussions will be led by Deacon Scott D. Gilfillan. Deacon Scott was ordained as a Catholic deacon in 2001. He has a wide range of experience of facilitating groups and leading retreats for parishes, RCIA programs, and deacon candidates. For many years, he was the director of deacon formation for the diocese of Charlotte, assisting and guiding deacon candidates and their wives in discernment and formation. Most recently he has become the director of the Catholic conference and retreat center in Hickory.
